DESCRIPTION
Pisa is one of the most ancient cities in Italy. The historians date it's origin about three thousand years ago. City of western Tuscany, chief town of the homonym province at 4 meters above the sea surface, at 12Km from the Tyrrhenian, in the coastal alluvial plain formed by Arno, that cross it, dividing it in two parts almost alike; the right part contains the primitive centre of the built up area, whereas the left one is following the year 1000.
Formed in ancient age , Pisa has flourished at the beginning of the vulgar age as a commercial junction on Via Amelia Scauri, that was taking from Rome to Gallia and has developed as a shipping center of trade in the 12th and 13th century. Pisa today is the center of trade of a well developed region by the agricultural and industrial point of view, as well as seat itself of many industries.
The greatest monuments of Pisa, among the most important in the roman architecture in Italy, are grouped in Piazza del Duomo (Lawn of miracles), in a secluded corner of the city; here we can find just the Duomo, big building with the shape of latin cross, the leaning tower, the Battistero (circular plan, builded with white marble) and the Camposanto Monumentale.
